Named after the licence you get

cPanel charges by how many accounts a server holds, so each plan is matched to a licence tier rather than making you work out which one you need. The licence is in the price.

Licensing, explained

cPanel bills by account, and that surprises people

Until 2019 a cPanel licence cost the same however many accounts a server held. It now scales in tiers, and the fee has risen every year since. Most hosts leave you to discover this when the bill changes. Here is the structure, so you can choose a plan knowing exactly what it covers.

  1. Solo

    1 account

Your own sites on one account. No client separation needed.

  2. Admin

    Up to 5 accounts

A few clients, or your own projects split into separate accounts.

  3. Pro

    Up to 30 accounts

Small hosting operations and agencies with a working client roster.

  4. Premier

    100 accounts included

Established hosts. Accounts beyond 100 carry a per-account fee.

Bundled, not billed separately

The licence for your tier sits inside the plan price. There is no second line item at checkout or on renewal.

Moving between tiers

If your account count crosses a threshold, we tell you before the next invoice and quote the difference. Nothing is applied silently.

When cPanel raises prices

They have done so each January since 2019. We absorb what we reasonably can, and give notice well ahead when we cannot.

  1. WHM configured, not just installed

Nameservers, the initial setup wizard, feature lists and a sensible default package are all done before you receive the login.

  2. CloudLinux with account isolation

Every account gets capped CPU, memory and process limits, so one runaway site cannot drag the rest of the server down with it.

  3. LiteSpeed in place of Apache

Installed and licensed, with LSCache available to every account. This is normally an extra purchase and a morning of work.

  4. Exim, Dovecot and SPF ready

Mail is configured with sane rate limits, reverse DNS set, and SPF and DKIM generated per domain automatically.

  5. Backups running from day one

A cPanel backup schedule to remote storage, configured and verified. Not left as an exercise for you.

  6. Firewall and brute-force protection

CSF with rules already tuned for a cPanel box, plus login failure blocking on WHM, cPanel, SSH and mail.

If you are hosting other people

WHM turns one server into as many hosting accounts as your licence allows. For an agency holding client sites, or someone starting a hosting business, this is the whole point of the machine.

  1. Set up packages

Define disk, bandwidth, email and database limits once in WHM. Every account you create afterwards inherits them.

  2. Create accounts

One form per client, or automatically through WHMCS. Each account is isolated from the others by CloudLinux.

  3. Hand over cPanel

Your client logs into a panel they may already know, on your nameservers, without seeing your name or ours.

  4. Bill and support

Suspend, upgrade, terminate or take a backup from WHM. You are the host as far as your client is concerned.

Also available

  • Private nameservers on your own domain
  • WHMCS provisioning module supported
  • Per-account resource limits and alerts
  • Reseller accounts for sub-agents
  • Account transfers in from another WHM
  • Your branding in cPanel, not ours

Before you order

Licensing and setup questions people ask before moving to a cPanel server of their own.

Sizing a server is easier with someone who has done it before. Tell us what you are running and we will suggest a size — including a smaller one, if that is the honest answer.
